The next Nature Coast Ramblers kayak trip will be Tuesday, February 21st --- a 2+ hour trip on the Homosassa River past Monkey Island, up river to the Blue Waters just outside the wildlife park where manatees are likely to be seen. There are two short alternate routes before returning to the launch site.

Please meet at 9:30 so we can all be on the water by 10:00 am. We will launch at Riversport Kayaks, 5297 S. Cherokee Way; there is an easy entry ramp behind his shop. Please call Kurt in advance if you want to rent a kayak - 352-621-4972.

Directions:

From US 19 in Homosassa, turn west on CR 490/W Yulee Dr to its end and bear right on S Cherokee Way. At the 4-way stop intersection of Cherokee Way and Boulevard Drive, turn right [to avoid driving into the river] and go through the motel parking lot until you get to Riversport Kayaks (the launch is in the rear). There is plenty of parking in the back.

After kayaking, drive to the 4-way stop, go straight across to 5590 S Boulevard Drive, Cedar Key Fish Company (The Freezer). It is just a few blocks on the right (walk through the bar to the picnic area out back); or you can walk there in about 7 minutes. They don't take reservations or credit cards (cash only), but we will call ahead to let them know approximately how many people. It's a scruffy place, but the peel and eat shrimp are really good!
